Erica Tanov spring/summer 2009

I flit about...much like a hummingbird, but without the metabolism to go with it (thanks for the simile susan).  Due to all my flitting, I often miss things.  This is the case with the beautiful spring/summer collection from Erica Tanov....perfection.

The photographs, the styling, the model (you have heard it all before)...oh yes, and the clothes are quite lovely as well:

thank goodness I have more focused friends to remind me and keep me still from time to time...thank you jill...

when flickr and etsy bump into one another good things happen...

Like blogging, flickr is this crazy world of amazingly talented folks, putting their heart and soul out there on display.  Typically what comes back is support, kind words and doorways to beautiful new lives seen through the eyes of lens.

I have gotten to "know" such an amazing group of photographers through flickr and feel as if when flickr friends take that step, deciding to sell their work, I am right there hoping for oodles of success and proud of them for putting it out there in that way.

Which is why it is such a pleasure for me to introduce you to some of those special gals right now...I have long admired their photographs and am so happy to share with you their new etsy shops.

Do yourself a favor and get lost in their links....

a blissful residence...

Here's the deal...the frenches found a house.  As many of you know, I have wanted a new french residence for quite sometime.  The mister on the other hand has found many creative ways to change the subject...this weekend we walked through one that was just right.  The mister actually agreed!  It needs quite a bit of work, but the visions and dreams are there.  Many things have to line up (planets, stars and such), before this is possible, but a girl can dream.

I am torn between "if you put it out there it just may happen" and jinxing it...so I have decided to put it out there in a tiny way.  This photograph is from that home, but that's all I am comfortable divulging at this time...send the positive vibes this way won't you?  I will keep you posted!!!

fog and thistle

Rachel of Fog and Thistle is near and dear to me.  I remember back in the day at the very beginning of my bliss I happened upon a lovely blog, written by this amazingly, talented papercut artist...I commented and was so thrilled when she stopped by and said a few words too...

Rachel's work captures an innocence and intricacy that is completely unique to her and what she does.  There was a time that I became so inspired by her pieces that I thought perhaps I too would become a papercut artist, I even purchased a book.  I then realized that there is a reason Rachel does this and I don't...her talent takes her there, mine does not...

I also feel inclined to mention that she is a bit famous.  In February Rachel was on the Martha Stewart show, sharing her talents with the world.  She walked the audience through the creation of one of her lovely nighlights...she handled the whole situation with such grace and ease...

Rachel, never would I have imagined that we would end up where we are today.  You all famous and me all humbled by having you put your work on my bliss.  Thank you for taking us along on this adventure, completely driven by your talent and kindness...xo mrs. french

twig and a magical code

I think I could dedicate a whole "I heart" list to this next sponsor (and probably have).  twig is one of the prettiest culminations of clothing, jewelry, shoes, toys, and home lovelies I have ever seen....

sometimes I feel as if Elizabeth, the genius behind twig, has a secret way of knowing exactly what I crave before I fully know myself.  A beautiful, effortless style, that is both quiet and screams "LOOK AT MY IMPECCABLE TASTE!!!" at the same time.

chie mihara, erica tanov, orla kiely, gary graham, kristensen du nord, periwinkle bloom (another blissful sponsor), hable construction, and ruth tomlinson are just a few of the designers that have found a pretty home at twig...

and do you know what ms. elizabeth has done?  she has offered an amazing discount to bliss readers!  Just use the magic code "BLISS" at check out and get 20% off!

thank you Elizabeth for occupying a bit of space on my bliss...somehow just being associated with you and what you do makes me feel a little prettier...

humanoid

I really shouldn't start...I have a feeling that if I started wearing humanoid clothing, I may choose to wear nothing else...

"HUMANOID (LITERALLY HUMAN-LIKE) IS CHARACTERIZED BY THE USE OF FABRICS THAT ENVELOP THE BODY IN COMFORTABLE LUXURY."

....sounds absolutely perfect to me...I feel as if I may have mastered "comfortable" but fall short when it comes to the "luxury" part....

pink blossoms

I love spring.  Every season brings about new subjects for beautiful outdoor photography.  Spring brings with it one of my favorites...beautiful pink blossoms.  No matter how many photographs I see or how many I take myself, I never tire of them.  I also love the fact that each person behind the camera sees them in completely different, beautiful ways.  These are a few of my favorites...

I am hoping to post some of mine later this week.  If you have a link to others please share them...xo mrs. french

perideau designs and an amazing deal for blissful readers!

Perideau Designs is a relatively new discovery/friend of mine.  I often express on my bliss how cluttered and complicated my life and surroundings are.  Perideau Designs is the perfect example of what I strive for...."modern simplicity."

Bridgette of the lovely Perideau Designs has managed to create personalized stationary, prints and tags that are both stylish and in some cases adorable (that owl just screams "B!").  I adore the subtle differences in fonts and the modern color palette...

I love them all so much I hope to acquire a personalized set of my very own, to send out with my photographs...I can't think of a more flattering accompaniment.

Bridgett has also been so kind to offer a generous gift to blissful readers.  With every Perideau purchase receive a second item (of equal or lesser value) for free!  Get out!  I am completely serious!...just use the code "blissfulb" in the comment section of your etsy purchase...make sure you indicate which item you choose and any personalization requests.  Hurry!  offer lasts until March 31st (limit 2 free items).

thank you Bridgett for finding me, so I could find you...you are truly wonderful in every way...

saint cupcake giveaway extravaganza...

I have a love affair with this next sponsor....it started back when my little B came into this world.  Saint Cupcake is one of my favorite Portland spots (actually it maybe the top of that list).  When B was very small, I rarely left our east side neighborhood.  Then I caught wind of this magnificent cupcakery ....I found myself venturing out across the river quite often.  Actually 3 times a week would not be odd for me and my little boy.  Mr. French ended up falling in love too...it quickly became a family affair...

Saint Cupcake's cupcakes are leaps and bounds above any other's I have ever had (and I have tried a lot).  When extended family travels 1/2 way across the country, Saint Cupcake is always part of the itinerary.

~my camera loves Jami's cupcakes too...

Through my cupcake obsession I have gotten to know the owner of my favorite cupcake spot, Jami Curl...which only made my love for this establishment grow and grow...such a nice feeling knowing that the face behind the cupcakes is equally wonderful.  When she agreed to sponsor my bliss it felt perfect....

Which is why I am so thrilled to announce:

Rather than trying to describe these yummy masterpieces with words, you can now try them for yourselves.  Yet another Portland treasure that is simply too good to keep to ourselves.  Anyone can visit this interactive site and order a sweet cupcake kit of their very own....
First you choose three cupcakes:

Then you choose 3 icings:

Finally, get crazy and choose three sprinkles:

and voila!...your very own piece of this Portland legend.  Watch out, they are beyond addicting...at least I had the river separating us.

Now for the giveaway part!  Jami has offered 3 kits to blissful readers.  Leave a comment telling me which combination inspires you the most (pretty way of say the one you want to stuff in your trap the most), with a way for me to reach you and you could win cupcakes (the best ones ever) on your doorstep...comments will be open until Friday at 4:00 pm (pacific time)....

In the mean time go play around the Saint Cupcake site...check out Jami's witty blog and for goodness sakes adopt some pretty cupcakes...happy, happy, happiest Monday!

whitest white...

Most of the time I choose what I choose simply because I like it.  However, I believe that on some occasions there is something else driving my choices.   This became particularily apparent yesterday...I began to peruse content for my post and became transfixed on these images...

~images courtesy of light locations
White overload in a good way.  I realize that many times images speak to me based on what is going on in my life.  I have posted many white interiors (maybe too many)...this, I believe to be the whitest of all my whites.  White is calming, pure and uncluttered...I am drawn to it because it is opposite of my life at this moment.  Wow...this says so much...I must chill...

I come for the clothes, but stay for the photographs...

I am not quite sure how I happened upon sessún...actually I am pretty sure jane showed me the way...when in doubt when it comes to a fashion credit, it is usually jane.  She is like my own fashion consultant.  Enough about jane (although I would love to continue my adoration)....

I am a bit confused as to my real reasoning behind why I choose what I do fashion-wise.  I am now thinking that perhaps I choose something based on the types of photos/styling surrounding the clothing.  This is completely the case with sessún...the clothing is perfectly lovely, but for goodness sakes the photos!  the styling!  the model (which happens to be whitney's hungry/gorgeous, costar, allie, on the city...not that I would ever watch that show...I just happen to know everything about it naturally...oh)!  I am not sure I would wear every piece in the sessún spring collection, but I am pretty sure I would hang all the photos on my walls...so beautiful...

"an evening of inspiration" and a dash of plywerk...

I remember back in the early days of my blogging adventure I happened upon one of the prettiest blogs I had ever seen...it belonged to a Portlander, which only peaked my interest further.  Pam of housemartin has a way with so many things...she is gifted in design, she is a genius with all types of flowers and she has opened one of my favorite shops...

my first visit to ink & peat gave me one of my all-time favorite photos.  It all fits togehter beautifully...my first official art opening is going to take place at the loveliest ink & peat.  The fact that all of this centers around a beautiful cause makes everything perfect in my eyes...
benefit and art show
I am also be thrilled to announce that my pieces will be displayed on plywerk.  I cannot tell you how giddy/nervous I have been...the plywerk folks have helped me turn my nerves into straight up giddy; incredibly pleasant to work with and such a lovely product to boot.  After the show I plan on putting some plywerk pieces in my shops...so stay tuned...

I would love for you all to come...please do and please identify yourself...I would love to meet so many of you face to face...

bonbon oiseau

I still remember the first time I stumbled across this next sponsor's work..."awe" out loud is what I said...Bonbon Oiseau takes "special" to the most special level.  I have the exact same reaction every time I visit Deb's site...the magic does not fade.  I own my very own bonbon and it has remained a constant favorite...so much so that I have stopped wearing it everyday for fear I could wear it out...I want it around my neck forever...
Her work is timeless, feminine and for some magical reason, I just feel a little prettier every time I wear it.  Not to mention, she has a fantastic blog: your destiny is stone golden...her words and thoughts match her talents...I just know that if she were near me I would become a bonbon groupie...hoping she would see me half as talented and charming as I do her...

Once again, I am so honored to have her on my bliss...I wear her pretty banner with pride...
thank you deb...

oh and...

I heart these shoes...I heart them so much, but they do not want anything to do with me.  I have lusted for and endlessly posted on Argila's amazing shoes...hand-crafted from Spain, and so achingly beautiful...

I took the leap and found these and had to have them.  I purchased them for a ridiculously reduced price and anxiously awaited their arrival...they showed up and sadly, they are about a 1/2 size too small...

I figure you and I have similar taste...so I am offering one of my blissful readers a shot at them...they are a European size 39...I believe they would be best suited for someone that wears a US small 9 or 8 1/2...they are spanking new and so pretty, and soft and perfect...email me if you are interested...I will give you further info.

If not, just look at them for a bit because they really are quite pretty...sigh...

PLYWERK

Do you happen to remember these?

I posted about these lovely works a few weeks back.  They were and still are part of an ingenious exhibit hosted by Olio United.  The artists' pieces are displayed on PLYWERK...sustainable wood or bamboo panels; creating display-ready masterpieces, eliminating high cost framing (which make beautiful art more accessible to the masses).

Needless to say, I was completely smitten and have not been able to get this Portland based company off my mind...
I have visions of what would happen if their panels should happen to meet my photographs.  Ummm...I sense the beginning of a lovely relationship...more on that in a couple of days (Although I would love to spill it right now!)....

In the mean time do check out their site, facebook page and etsy shop featuring the work of  kim oanh nguyen, the "muse" behind the product is a crazy/amazing photographer and more than deserves your attention...If you have photos of your own that you are dying to display in a creative simply beautiful way you should really check out what they can do...I can vouch for the quality....I wonder if I can get rid of all my frames?  just a thought...

No need to worry sweet friends, I have found my beach house and its pretty darn near my favorite beach in the entire world (our of the ones I have been to anyway)...

I first fixed upon this gem back in October...Design Sponge did a lovely before and after post in its honor and I have been in love with it ever since.  The only problem was at the time, it was not available...then the other day I was perusing my regular home listing sites and guess what (I bet you can)?  It's for sale!  I cannot tell you how excited I am...now another problem arises...ummm I guess you can guess that too.  1.5 million may be a bit more than I can swing on a second home...yep just a tiny bit...xo mrs. french

I am constantly on a search...searching for inspirational bits.  I guess that's what us bloggers do...today I ended up somewhere beautifully unexpected...

The Frenches have been married for almost 11 years...I have no plans to marry again, but sometimes I wish I had...to the same mister of course.  I found myself on the site for Once Wed...the most wonderful site for lovingly, gently worn gowns (why oh why was this not around back in the day?).  Part of the perfection of this site is found in the "real weddings" section.  Photographs taken from the most beautiful ceremonies I have ever seen...so pretty that I find them inspirational on any day...

blissful sponsor: little brown pen

Oh how I adore this next sponsor...little brown pen.  Little Brown Pen is a genius little shop on etsy that specializes in lovely templates one can print over and over again.  It's a team effort...Nichole and Evan the adorable couple behind the shop work together to come up with designs that are both whimsical and special...

(the windswept dandelion design has been a personal favorite since the shop's opening)

You also need to take the time to visit Nichole's perfect blog (actually, I would be surprised to hear that you haven't already).  Nichole, Evan and the boys have temporarily decided to take up residence in Paris...which is perfect for those of us who dream of such things.  The photographs and thoughtful words help to bring a piece of this magical city into my very stay-put existence...

the clever mr. french

Mr. French has a strategy....when I try to discuss the possiblity of moving, he puts it off by saying that we are not quite ready for that step.  I can deal with this.  I am the type of gal to make lemonade and all that....I find ways to pretty up our current surroundings.   I tell Mr. French of my visions of white walls and floors, new countertops, shelves in the kitchen etc...he in turn says,"I thought we were going to move?"  Ack!  stopped dead in my tracks.

I turn to beautiful spaces on my computer...I put them in files, bookmark them, and share them with all of you (the most fun).  My loss....

mable...for sale?

Hi friends...this post is bittersweet.  I am selling my "Mable"...In October Mable fell and broke her lcd screen...she is back and fixed, working perfect as ever.  During her stint at the camera hospital I purchased a d80...these models are so similar that I have no need for ms. mable anymore.  It feels sort of weird being attached to a camera this way, which is why I held onto her and why I have yet to name my new camera.  Anyway, click here for a pretty good example of photos taken with her or, check out my flickr...anything before October 2008 was taken with Mable....if you are interested please email me directly...xo mrs. french

Happy Friday!  I am posting late today because I have been lingering...lingering in the most beautiful place I have seen in a long time.  Seriously, I sat down to post last night and became enthralled by the work of kea-etc.  I don't know a lot about this photographer except that he is a he and lives in France.  I literally lost 2 hours perusing his photographs.  I then set out to post this morning and became caught up once more.  This post is particularily long...

Sauvie Island round 2....

I had to go back after my previous camera mishap.  I like both sets of photographs for different reasons.  The day I went on my schlep with my sx70 it was warm and sunny.  On this particular day it was cloudy, and cold.  I have learned to appreciate cloudy, dreary days in Portland.  I love what it does to my photography and how I see things.  I also find myself processing my photos to convey the mood even further.  Often times I will take a picture and look at it and feel as if I am not finished because it does not convey how the moment felt at the time the original was taken.  Processing allows me to show you exactly how that second felt to me (sort of confusing right?)...

I am far from a purist in my photography, but I have to say that my photographs are purely what is in my head, how I feel, or simply how I see things...

blissful sponsor: jill bent

Every time I look at my next sponsor's work I am reminded to take a step back, breathe, and simplify.  Jill Bent's pieces are simply lovely.  A type of breeze I so wish would come into my life and rustle my hair.  Her work is made from vintage and all natural fabrics.  I personally own one of her pretty bags and cannot leave the house without receiving at least one compliment....

What strikes me most about Jill's work is the loving details.  I think the most wonderful thing about my bag is the lining...it is the details such as these that put her in a class all her own.

I can honestly say that I find a warmness knowing that by owning something from Jill's shop I am also taking a bit of her scaled back, clutterless everyday with me.  Until I figure out how to make my own life a little less chaotic, I find great comfort in this.

Thank you Jill, for your sponsorship and that lovely breath of fresh air I have come to know...xxoo mrs. french

p.s. now I just need to figure out a way to talk her out of that orange cabinet and talk ms. michelle into making me a chair just like the one in barb's house...busy, busy!

nygårdsanna take 2

Hello friends...I first need to take the time to thank Jane and Alicia.  I knew their posts would be spectacular and I have to say they went above and beyond...so lovely!

I always find myself a bit quiet after my family leaves...I had a wonderful time with my little sister and B had the most magical time with his "Aunty T"...I am giving myself one day to feel a bit sad...not to worry, there are plenty of beautiful things to occupy my bliss...

I first discovered the beautiful Swedish line nygårdsanna back in November and have been paying close attention every since...I am loving everything and I mean absolutely everything I am seeing for spring...

...hope you are all having a lovely week....xo mrs. french

I heart Monday.

Jane here from Ill Seen, Ill Said! Mrs French is off gallivanting with her sister so I'm hearting this Monday on her behalf. She wanted to come back to a little Spring fashion inspiration, and I don't like to argue with the boss lady on her own blog, so here goes! Hope you enjoy my stand-in Monday hearts and drop in for a visit over at my blog where, as well as fashion, I blog about things other than fashion...

I heart this headband (even though I've short hair)
I heart these sandals so much it hurts
I heart this dress, by Toronto's own Comrags
Oh, and this dress too...
Last dress, I promise
I heart this necklace. And the person who made it. And her blog!
I heart these wool jersey leggings
I heart this sustainable bag from Toronto's FLUF
I heart this cami-blouse
I heart this perfect tee, and perfect tees in general
This necklace would make a perfect tee even more heartable
I heart finding new jeans that make my flat bottom look pertfect
I heart this easy cardi
I heart this sweet necklace (discovered through amazing Stephanie)
I heart this skirt
And this Whistles skirt
And this one too. Three's a charm!
I heart this silver boho bag
I've been hearting these ruffled sandals for weeks now...
And, finally, I uber-heart this sweet, ruffled lingerie

Have a happy Monday!
